Budget Speech 2018

23 Feb 2018

On Monday 19 February 2018, Hugh Masekela's song "Thuma Mina" (isiZulu meaning "send me"), first released in March 2006, was number four on Apple iTunes in South Africa. Through the song, the late Hugh Masekela commits to be the points-man to help fix our country's ills - AIDS, poverty and violence - among others. Those who engaged with the 2018 State of the Nation Address (SONA), delivered by the new President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, will know that he so fittingly referenced this song as a call to action for all South Africans to participate in our country's socioeconomic renewal. It is no wonder then that so many South Africans streamed "Thuma Mina" the weekend following SONA. This gives us hope that South Africans are not just feeling optimistic but also want to act.

We are therefore proud to bring you the 2018 Old Mutual Wealth Budget Issue, where experts across Old Mutual Wealth analyse the budget statement, what it means to you (and your clients) and the role we all play in building South Africa.
